Charleston any time of the year. First off you are going to want to Reserve a Site at Mt Charleston. They are hard to get if you just show up and if your not there at the right time and place! There are several things that you just won’t find up there and you don’t want to pay ten times as much at the only place to buy anything up there.

If you are heading to the cabins you should be well covered for any situation. But if you are heading to one of the many campgrounds up there then you want to make sure before you leave that you have everything one would need to stay dry and bug free for how many nights you will be up there.

First you are going to want a good Digital Camera. There is plenty to take from the mountain top but if you are going up there take only pictures and leave only foot prints.

If you are planning on backpacking while you are there comfort is a must. You need a backpack with strength as well as packability. A good Day Pack will do the trick nicely.

During the summer or winter having a warm sleeping bag is a must. The temperature up there gets pretty low at night no matter what time of year it is. Though somewhat comfortable in the summer you will find yourself reaching for that sleeping bag around 2 AM.

And a good sleeping pad is always handy. The ground up there is pretty nice if you are hiking in the woods and setting up camp other than in the campground. But in the campsites themselves you are going to be on ground that has been trampled and hardened over the years so a good sleeping pad is always good to have under your back.
